Brides to Bumrush Filene's Basement

Stampede!

STAMPEDE! It’s wedding season and brides are on the prowl for another installment of the Running of the Brides at Filene's Basement. The next event coincides with the royal wedding, this Friday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Mazza Gallerie (5300 Wisconsin Ave. N.W.).

When the doors open, the shoppers will be up and running. But after each event, the brides have evolved... they’re smarter. Swifter. Keener. They have teams, for goodness sakes.

Filene’s world-famous bridal event attracts brides-to-be of every breed: the good, the bad and the badder, sending their teams through basement aisles in search of their dream dress at drop-dead prices like $250. Score!

You can camp out the night before or stroll through in the afternoon. But don’t keep your dress waiting for too long -- the bride behind you might want it. Trust no one.

Before you go, be sure to pack these tips in your survival kit:

  • Recruit your team of "helpers" and assign jobs.
  • Wear matching gear to distinguish friend from foe.
  • Tear out bridal pictures to show your team what to look for.
  • Wear a swimsuit under your clothes so you can change anywhere.
  • Leave your handbag at home.
  • No makeup! Concealer on white lace is a big no-no.

Says Filene's: "Not everyone wants to deal with the 8 a.m. rush. Starting around 11 a.m., you’ll see dresses going back on the racks and the scene will be calmer."

At any rate, you'll have the weekend to recover.
