The Ellington residential development on U Street is going to be getting a new neighbor. With their residential plans on 14th Street a sealed deal, JBG Companies are moving ahead with their proposed "Destination Hotel" at 13th and U Streets, according to DC Mud.

The JBG-developed hotel looks to revamp the current Rite Aid site with a four-star, "boutique and independently managed" hotel that could include as many as 250 guestrooms, 4,500 square feet of conference space and a robust 23,000 square feet of retail, DC Mud reported.

The tentative outline of their plans include a restaurant, rooftop bar, swimming pool, gym, and a publicly accessible arts component.

The U Street area sure has changed over the last 4 years. Most would agree it's all positive advancement, but hopefully the staples that make U Street unique stick around.
