MAKING WHOOPIE (PIE):  M Bar (1143 New Hampshire Ave. N.W.) is encouraging you to make whoopie this Valentine’s Day weekend. Whoopie pie, that is.Their "Making Whoopie" pie class will teach you how to make heart-shaped versions of the oh-so-popular dessert made of creamy frosting between two mounds of cake. They are also throwing in some drink specials and a chocolate-dipped strawberry demo. Saturday, Feb. 13; 5 p.m.; $15.

CHOCOLATE WORKSHOP: Some of us are not that talented in baking up some perfect sweets for our sweeties. No worries -- just make someone else teach you! L'Academie de Cuisine (5021 Wilson Lane, Bethesda and 16006 Industrial Drive, Gaithersburg, Md.) has some V-Day-themed classes for the weekend, including a cookie workshop and a chocolate class. So prepare yourself for the big day or bring along your S.O. for their couples classes. Sunday, Feb. 14; $75-$175

CUPCAKE DESIGN: Hello Cupcake (1361 Connecticut Ave. N.W.) is hosting a series of cupcake design classes, and they have a special one for Valentine's Day (of course) to teach you the techniques of decorating. Turns out it's not just about slapping on some pink icing. Saturday, Feb. 13, 10 a.m.-noon; $50.
