To the Victor Belong the Cupcakes

Sticky Fingers becomes first vegan bakery to win Food Network's "Cupcake Wars: All-Stars"

Adding a delicious twist to a bourgeoning cupcake rivalry (we're looking at you, Georgetown Cupcake), D.C.'s own Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats (1370 Park Road NW) became the first vegan bakers to win Food Network's "Cupcake Wars: All-Stars."

This was the third "Cupcake Wars" appearance for the Columbia Heights baking duo -- founder Doron Petersan and head baker Jenny Webb -- and their second win.

To celebrate, the four winning cupcake varieties will be on sale through Feb. 1, and cupcake kits are available to ship to all 50 states through online orders.

The scrumptious all-star cupcakes are:

  • Rolling Stones Brown Sugar: brown sugar cupcake, rum frosting, topped with brown sugar brittle
  • Man in Black Johnny Cashew: black cocoa cupcake, black cocoa dark chocolate frosting, topped with dark chocolate cashew candy
  • Salt-n-Pepa Inspired: chocolate bourbon smoked pepper cupcake, salted caramel and vanilla bean frosting, topped with fondant candy headphones
  • Chuck Berry Inspired: orange cupcake with blueberry cinnamon filling, raspberry frosting, topped with a sparkly red fondant guitar

And if you want to attempt to make your own Sticky Finger-esque cupcakes, on Feb. 16, Doron will release her first cookbook, Sticky Fingers' Sweets! 100 Super-Secret Vegan Recipes ($27.50; $17.41 on Amazon), revealing the recipes, techniques and even a little bit of science behind her acclaimed bakery's most popular desserts and breakfast items.

And yes, we're counting cupcakes as a breakfast item.
