C'mon people, they're free. And since when have we ever turned down a free (or any, for that matter) cupcake?

Starting today, rapid cupcake fans in Dupont Circle can sink their teeth into something cute, sweet and best of all, FREE. In celebration of its grand opening at Tangysweet, Red Velvet Cupcakery is giving away mini cupcakes from noon until 1 a.m. (Perfect to top off all those Brickskellar beers before you head on back to your hipster pad for the night.)

The cupcakery will feature its most popular flavors, created by renowned pastry chef David Guas. Think devil's food (chocolate buttermilk cake with bittersweet chocolate ganache), vanilla bean (topped with Madagascar bourbon vanilla frosting) and of course, the Southern Belle (a red-velvet chocolate cake with cream-cheese frosting). Heck, they're so small, better try 'em all.

Red Velvet Cupcakery, which already shares its Penn Quarter location with Tangysweet, is owned and operated by a brother-and-sister team of D.C. natives Aaron and Canada Gordon. Wonder how the cupcakes stack up to perennial faves Georgetown Cupcake and Baked and Wired? Find out for yourself and pick up a free cupcake or two (hey, they're mini, it's totally OK), 'cause in case you haven't noticed, this is the summer of the cupcake.
