RIP: Garrett's Restaurant and Railroad Tavern

A Georgetown institution has closed.

Visit the website for Garrett’s Restaurant and Railroad Tavern on M Street NW and you’ll find mourning: A black backdrop and an RIP, Jan. 27, 1979 – May 30, 2011.

“Thank you to all of our loyal friends and customers from over the many years,” the website reads. “Sadly, Garrett's has closed and is no longer in business.”

No reason for the closing is given.

The Washington Business Journal’s calls to the restaurant were not answered.
