Cleveland Park Eatery Serves Final Meal

Yanni’s Greek Taverna had been serving customers for 20 years

After serving up tzatziki, spanakopita and baklava for more than 20 years, Yanni’s Greek Taverna has closed its doors for good.

The Cleveland Park eatery served its final meal on Sunday. While the restaurant had remained popular over the years, a manager told NBC4 that the restaurant’s rent went up so much that the owner could no longer afford to stay open.

"I've been eating here twice a week for the past 20 years," former customer William Fitzpatrick told NBC4.  "It’s heartbreaking that they’re leaving. Is there life after Yanni’s?"

Ten employees lost their jobs when the restaurant closed.
