No Rest for the Wine-y

Finally, a reason to drive to Rockville

We know you need a damn good reason to drive to Rockville. You won't even brave the drive for free Craigslist furniture, after all. (It's OK, neither will we unless it's definitely notIKEA.)

But just try to resist the lure of Uncorked, Rockville's annual wine and music fest. Yep. When wine's involved, all bets are off. In other words, time to start sucking up to your designated driver.

Uncorked is this Saturday from noon to 6 p.m, when you can sample top vinos from 10 state wineries, including Bordeleau Vineyards in Eden, Md.; Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard of Frederick County, and Terrapin Station Winery of Cecil County.

Maybe you'll even learn a little something, like at a cooking demo from Patrice Olivon of L'Academie de Cuisine. Other seminars include tastings and winemaking demonstrations. (Don't try those at home, OK? We're not fond of exploding bathtubs.)

Live musical performances include the Swingin' Swamis (jazz and world rhythms), Wes Tucker and the Skillets (alternative folk, rock, soul), and Martinez and Guthrie (folk).

The first 2,000 paid attendees will receive a commemorative wine glass. Tickets to taste are $10; admission is free for concerts, wine seminars and the cooking demonstration.
