Morton's, The Free Happy Hour

Opening of patio and cookbook-signing event

Scarf down free samples, wine and a signature summer cocktail at Morton's The Steakhouse (3251 Prospect St. NW). Yeah, you probably don't bathe in a solid-gold tub brimming with cash, but that's the beauty of a FREE! event.

The steakhouse is officially opening its brand-spankin' new patio tomorrow (7:30-9:30 p.m.), as well as celebrating the launch of its new cookbook, "Morton's The Cookbook: 100 Steakhouse Recipes for Every Kitchen." Last time we tried to cook steak we had had to call the fire department, but this time we know to clean the broiler every five years or so.

Co-founder and author Klaus Fritsch will be making a book tour stop at the reception. If you're not so keen on the fire department yourself, keep in mind that cookbooks will be on sale at the event, annnnd the author will be signing those cookbooks purchased on-site.

Meet up on the patio and in the front area of the bar to enjoy hors d'oeuvres, wine and a signature summer cocktail listed in the cookbook. A cash bar will be available for all other drinks.

Afterward, feel free to join members of online community Yelp for a progressive dining/bar-hopping event down Prospect Street, including Café Milano, Peacock Café and Bangkok Bistro. Watch out for those cocktails though -- they don't call it a "crawl" for nothin'.
