Date Night for the Obamas in D.C.

The evening before Mother's Day, President Barack Obama accompanied by First Lady Michelle Obama ducked into a swank northwest Washington restaurant for dinner.

The first couple strolled right past a long line waiting for tables at Ristorante Tosca (1112 F St. N.W.) and were seated promptly, shortly before 8 p.m. The two were unaccompanied by any guests.

An NBC staffer dining on the scene said the president sipped a martini, and Michelle Obama drank white wine.

While the president and first lady ate, the street outside was shut down, and only those with reservations were allowed to enter the restaurant. The Obamas left about an hour and a half later, offering waves to a few onlookers on the way out.

Washingtonian rated Tosca #33 out of D.C.'s top 100 restaurants this year, noting: "The biege dining room is about as romantic as a boardroom." The magazine was kinder to the cooking though, writing, "The food has soul."
