Argonaut Bar Shipshape Again

After enduring misfortunes that could have come from a Greek tragedy, H Street hotspot Argonaut is set to open its doors again Saturday night.

Located on the frontiers of the H Street Corridor, the well-loved bar was shut down by a June fire.  The flames destroyed the bar area and the kitchen, which had provided catering for neighborhood music mecca Rock and Roll Hotel.

What's worse, after the fire, thieves broke in to steal the appliances and the gum ball machine.

The Argonaut's owners hope that the rough waters are in the past.  The bar has been refurbished, but still includes some charred-wood as a nod to the not so distant trials of the summer.  "Coastal" fare is on offer by the kitchen, including steamed shellfish mixed with potatoes and melted butter and fish tacos.

Argonaut first opened their doors in 2005, and has won numerous local plaudits, including a Hilly award for the Best Tavern of 2010.
