    • The next wave of underground dining is about to debut, just in time for Valentine's Day and as a cure for the winter doldrums. Number 68 Project comes to D.C. for a series of dinners, the first of which is "We Cannot Direct the Wind But We Can Adjust the Sails" on the 20th with (yes,it's true) Mike Isabella, and Columbia Room's Derek Brown on drinks.     • Today's OpenTable spotlight for D.C. is Vento in Dupont Circle. Get $50-worth of modern Italian fare for $25, and choose from dishes including grilled house-made venison sausage, hand-cut lemon tagliatelle with roasted shrimp, and braised beef short ribs with polenta.     • On Thursday, Chinese and Asian-fusion restaurants across D.C. will be celebrating Chinese New Year. One traditional dish: steamed whole fish. The reason? The Chinese word for 'fish' sounds like like the word for 'abundance.' (List: Where to celebrate Chinese New Year.)

    • February is apparently National Pie Month, and while we're not big on celebrating national food holidays, we can't help but crave a slice when we see one. The pie masters are over at Dangerously Delicious Pies on H Street which sells more apple than anything else. That said, they're doing a brisk business selling savories, particularly the SMOG pie (steak, mushroom, onion and gruyere) and the pork barbecue pie, adapted from "Down Home with The Neelys" on Food Network.
