Everyone deserves to be serenaded every now and then. Come see the R&B divas of Soul Sista Serenade at the Birchmere (3701 Mt. Vernon Ave., Alexandria, VA) and be treated to a worthwhile performance. The divas include Conya Doss, whose vocals can be compared to Jill Scott, indie singer Sy Smith, a background singer for "American Idol," and Maya Azucena, who has as a hip-hop soul vibe. 7:30 p.m.; $29.50.

Get ready to have some fun at the Science Club (1136 19th St. N.W.), and it doesn't even involve a messy lab project. Resident DJs Hanik and Sammy K are going to be playing jams all night long. Get ready because you can't predict what will happen at this experiment. No cover; 6 p.m.-2 a.m.

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival holds its first weekend of 2009. When the day starts to cool off, head out to a Colombian dance party with music from Grupo Cimarrn, Las Cantadoras del Pacfico and Estrellas del Vallenato. The concert will take place at the Folkways Salon at the National Mall between the U.S. Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial. 6 p.m, free..
