The festival includes tap instructional classes for all levels and ages

Tap all-stars from Broadway and beyond took to the stage at the opening concert for the DC Tap Festival at the Duke Ellington Theater Friday night. Even young dancers joined in on the fun.

The festival includes tap instructional classes for all levels and ages. Saturday caps off with a tap jam session with live music and the festival ends Sunday with a student showcase.

"And if the dancers are really brave, they can battle in the Cutting Contest," co-organizer Maud Arnold told Dance Spirit magazine. That part of the festival happens Sunday.

Maud Arnold and her sister Chloe Arnold said they are trying to establish the District’s global presence as a home for tap dance. The two native Washingtonians also hope to inspire future generations to this dance art.
