Volunteers Needed for Park Projects

If you’re looking to soak up the sun before fall, national parks in the area will be open free of charge for National Public Lands Day.

The National Parks Service is asking for volunteers to help beautify the parks before winter.

Bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and wear sturdy, comfortable shoes.

Here are some of the activities offered at some of the national parks in the region:

Glen Echo Park
:
—Plant new native plants, trim existing plants and build new park benches.

Harpers Ferry National Historical Park
:
—Work with park rangers on a trail cleanup project.

Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens
:
—The park will host a garden cleanup.

Manassas National Battlefield Park
:
—Trail maintenance projects including trash pick up and plant removal.

Prince William Forest Park
:
—Projects include tree planting, fence repair and ball field rehabilitation.

Rock Creek Park
:
—The Wildlife Conservancy of Virginia is hosting a talk.  And the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia is hosting a program on birds.
