What are you doing this weekend? We offer you a starting point:

MULTIPLE DAYS:

FRIDAY, JAN 20:

  • slam alexandria, hosted by Shelly Bell, takes over the historic Anthenaeum (201 Prince St., Alexandria), where poets will have three minutes and 10 seconds to perform an original poem. • The Year of the Loung Count, a sprawling night of entertainment at Comet Ping Pong (5037 Connecticut Ave. NW), brings together K-Holes (11:15 p.m.), The Gumbas (midnight), DJ Kid Congo Powers & DJ Baby Alcatraz (dance party) and M.C. Majestic Ape ("for antics & offense"), and video art. 10:30 p.m. doors; $10.

SATURDAY, JAN. 21:

  • Since the big Chinese New Year parade downtown isn't until next weekend, here's your chance to celebrate in the burbs. Middle Lane, Rockville, M.). Parade 11 a.m.; events 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • Comedian and TV host Adam Carolla takes the stage at the Fillmore (8656 Colesville Road, Silver Spring). Next up for him in 2012 is his appearance in The Celebrity Apprentice -- go see him before Donald Trump starts taking up all his time. 10 p.m.; $29.50-$49.50.

  • Well, The Hangover: Part III certainly sounds promising! Town Tavern (2323 18th St. NW) celebrates its third anniversary with a bash "you'll wish you could remember." An open bar runs 8-10 p.m. (all-you-can-drink domestic bottles and mixed rails). Additionally: $2 Jell-O shots, $3 tall boys, $5 Jager, mind erasers and mixed rails. Enough said? 8 p.m. doors; $10 online with RSVP (before 6 p.m. Sat.) or $15 at the door.

SUNDAY, JAN. 22:

  • Cheer Ovi at a Caps vs. Penguins Viewing Party at Union Jack's (4916 St. Elmo Ave., Bethesda). Specials include $2.50 Bud Lights and $3.50 Bass. 3 p.m. game.

Enjoy free hors d'ouevres and champagne, get ideas from vendors, and check out a strolling fashion show, and hair and makeup demos. Noon-4 p.m.; free.; RSVP here.
