What are you doing tonight? We offer up some suggestions:


COUNTY FAIRS (ALL WEEKEND):

  • The Arlington County Fair (Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 S. 2nd St., Arlington) runs Aug. 8-12, featuring (of course) carnival rides, a petting zoo, agricultural exhibits, and jewelry and craft vendors. This is the only area county fair that's Metro-accessible, with a $2 shuttle service from Ballston). Outdoor movie nights are Friday and Saturday. Wed.-Thu. 5-10 p.m. outdoors; no indoor hours. Fri. 2-11 p.m.; Sat. 10 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sun. 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Free admission; rides/food extra.
  • The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair (16 Chestnut St., Gaithersburg, Md.) kicks off Friday, running through Aug. 18. You'll find 40+ rides, carnival food, 4-H animal and craft exhibits, demolition derby and more. Fri. 3 p.m.-midnight; Sat. 10 a.m.-midnight; Sun. 10 a.m.-midnight. General admission $10; free for kids under 12.
  • The Prince William County Fair (10624 Dumfries Road, Manassas, Va.) also runs Aug. 10-18. You'll find all the important stuff, including rides, animal and midway shows, crafts demos and motor sports. Fri. 3 p.m.-midnight; Sat. noon-midnight; Sun. noon-11 p.m. General admission $8; $5 for kids under 6; $20 for ride wristband. Discounts before Aug. 11.

FRIDAY, AUG. 10:

  • Who doesn’t love D.C.’s famous food trucks? The Truckeroo festival (Half St. and M St. S.E.) is back for another month, bringing together a plethora of trucks from the D.C. area and plenty of live music. 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; free admission.
  • ArtJamz (1742 Connecticut Ave NW) hosts a Night Owlz session. Your admission includes a 20x24 canvas you get to paint and keep, unlimited acrylic paints and plenty of art materials. plus Honest Tea and pumping music. 6:30-11:30 p.m.; $35.

SATURDAY, AUG. 11:

  • More than 60 stores will be offering big discounts during Old Town's annual Summer Sidewalk Sale (King Street and nearby side streets, Alexandria). For starters, Bishop Boutique is offering 60-75 percent off all summer inventory, and Current Boutique is offering 20 percent off their consignment wares, plus serving up lemonade and cookies. You'll also find special events, product demos and more. See participating stores here.
  • The Outside a Dog Book Festival at Congressional Cemetery (1801 E St. SE) invites readers to bring along their fur kids. CemeteryDogs.org says: "You can look forward to seeing books written by fellow dogwalkers, including Gene Weingarten, Stephanie Deutsch, and Dennis Standford. History buffs can talk to Jefferson Morley about his 'Snow-Storm in August,' which chronicles an 1835 race riot, defused by cemetery resident Anna Thornton. Or, visitors can find many familiar cemetery names in Anthony Pitch's bestseller, 'The Burning of Washington'." 3:30-6:30 p.m.; free admission.
  • Too soon? Nah! DJ's Will Eastman and Brian Billion of No Scrubs will host Hot In Herre, a 2000s dance party at the 9:30 Club (815 V St. NW). Catch everyone from Kelly Clarkson to Kanye. 9 p.m. doors; $15.
  • Only two Mother Trucker pool parties remain this summer! Head to the Capitol Skyline Hotel (10 I St. SW) for pool time, 20+ food trucks, 10 bars, bounce houses, DJs and more. 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; $15 admission.
  • Performance artist Kathryn Cornelius will be getting married -- and divorced -- once an hour for seven hours during her "Save the Date" event at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (17th St. NW). Cornelius says the piece will explore "the life cycle of marriage and divorce and the wedding ceremony’s complex mix of private emotion, public spectacle, social expectation, and state power." 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; free.

SUNDAY, AUG. 12:

  • Art Soiree throw a Midsummer Night's Dream bash, bringing magic shows, performance part, body painting, music and more to the Georgetown Waterfront. Nosh on fare from Nick's Riverside Grille and Tony & Joe's. Costumes are welcome -- this is a forest wonderland, after all. 7 p.m.; $15 in advance; $20 at the door.
  • Fashion photog Justin Price hosts this weekend's Adult Swim Pool Party at the Capitol Skyline Hotel (10 I St. SW). Kick back in the pool, watch a runway show, and enjoy a barbecue brunch and drink specials. DJ Moh Ducis and The Handsmiths will provide musical entertainment. 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; $20 at the door, or free admission until 1 p.m. with a text RSVP (text your full name to 202-RESERVE).
  • Rising-star indie rockers Real Estate (hey, they can't help that they're from New Jersey) head to the 9:30 Club (815 V St. NW), with R. Stevie Moore opening. 7 p.m. doors; $20.
