It's about time you and your dog went uptown.
Take your best doggie friend to the 23rd Annual Bark Ball, sponsored by the Washington Humane Society, on June 5. The location isn't too shabby. It's at the Hilton Washington on Connecticut Avenue. Looks like you'll have to dust off that Furminator.
Get ready for people dancing with dogs, dogs dancing with dogs, and if you aren’t careful, your doggie date will find another partner, and you’ll end up dancing with a (gasp) human being.
It’s a combination black-tie gala and the best of a costume ball all rolled into one. Get creative with your dog’s costume. A bow tie goes well on your shelter dog. And a poodle in a tutu turns heads. But if your fashion heart is secretly with Cyndi Lauper
, it’s time to get creative -- if you have a willing co-conspirator in your dog. Remember, feather boas are always in style. If you are too busy getting into your own get-up, let your dog go (blush) naked! Photographers are on site to take photos, so maybe this is an early Christmas card pick.
6:30 p.m. Cocktails, silent auction (with some very creative offerings) and doggie bar
8 p.m. A sumptuous dinner, live auction and program, which is always funny and poignant considering all the proceeds go toward helping animals that are a lot more needy than yours
News 4’s Eun Yang
will be there as a celebrity dog walker
The wonderful thing about the Bark Ball: all dogs are equal. And there are big hearts all around toward the volunteers and those of you who have made a shelter dog part of your family.
This event raises more than $250,000 each year. The funds support the programs and services of the Washington Humane Society
such as sheltering, neutering and medical care for the most castaway animals. Here is just one of thousands of stories.
