    Saturday is National Passport Day.

It’s the first thing you need while traveling abroad: A passport.

But who wants to wait in line to get your picture taken, then wait in line to apply for a passport, only to realize you forgot the right kind of ID and have to go back home?

Well Saturday, the U.S. State Department wants to help with its annual Passport Day.

All domestic passport agencies and many other facilities, like post offices and clerks of court, will be open for you to apply for passport cards or books.

“This year, with no threat of government shutdown, as was the case a year ago, potential travelers can visit their local agency and apply for their passport through standard or expedited processing,” said John B. Townsend II, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic.

If you’re looking to travel anywhere in the world, you need a passport to get back into the United States.
