So it turns out, you're totally allowed to overspend your holiday budget in an auction situation. No one wants to lose, right?

The U Street Neighborhood Association is throwing its annual holiday party and silent auction on Thursday, Dec. 9 at Marvin (2007 14th St. N.W.). Tons of  local businesses have donated gift certificates and merch to make everyone's season bright.

Auction items include an original series signed print of Byron Peck's famous U Street Duke Ellington mural, a $100 gift certificate to Vinoteca, and a pair of tickets to the Black Cat New Year's Eve Ball.

The event begins at 7 p.m.; admission is free.
