Scuba Diving at the Convention Center — Yes, Really

Arthur Frommer, Kirsten Gum to be at this weekend's Travel and Adventure Show

How many Facebook profiles include a line about loving to travel? And how many of these travel lovers actually follow through on something awesome? Well, if you're a true travel fan, clear your calendar for March 12 and 13, and get to planning your next escape from the real world.

The Travel and Adventure Show is, well, traveling to the Washington Convention Center (801 Mount Vernon Place N.W.) next weekend. Go to remind yourself that there's life beyond broken Metro escalators.

Giveaways, travel workshops, and destination info are just a start. Experience hands-on adventure activities (indoor scuba diving, rock wall climbing, zooming on ziplines) and cultural performances before booking your next vacay. Figure out whether Israel, Costa Rica or Kenya is your next destination.

Over at the Culinary Stage and International Fiery Foods Challenge, Latin American cuisine is pitted against Caribbean; you can taste for yourself to make the determination.

Seminars include "Traveling Smarter: When to Splurge and When to Scrimp" by travel writer Pauline Frommer of Frommer Guidebooks and "Lessons From the Road and a Life on the Go" by the Travel Channel's Samantha Brown.

Tickets are $15 per day, or register online for $10 plus a processing fee.

(Editor's Note: NBC Washington is a broadcast sponsor of the Travel and Adventure Show.)
