Arena Stage Going Back to “Oklahoma!”

Play smashed box office records last year

A box office favorite is returning to our area. Arena Stage is reviving its production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!” this summer.

The show was the most popular in the company’s 60-year history last year, shattering all box office records.

Artistic Director Molly Smith will revive her roll as director of the production in Arena’s theater-in-the-round Fichandler Stage.

According to Managing Director Edgar Dobie, the original cast members have been invited to return, though none have been confirmed.

Eleasha Gamble originally played the lead role of Laurey and garnered praise. Nicholas Rodriguez from Broadway’s “Tarzan” played Curly and E. Faye Butler played Aunt Eller.

The musical will run from July 8 through Oct. 9.
