Events all around our area are honoring the victims of 9/11. Here is a detailed listing of places where you can go to commemorate those who lost their lives on this tragic day in 2001.
- Howard County has a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony with a wreath-laying ceremony and presentation of colors, at Centennial Park's Garden of Hope (10000 Route 108, Ellicott City, Md.). It begins at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center.
- The Washington D.C. Hometown Heroes Salute will honor 860 D.C Air National Guard servicemembers fighting the war on terror. The event is at 10 a.m. at the D.C. National Guard Armory (2001 E. Capitol St. S.E.).
- A World Trade Center survivor shares his story at Montgomery County's commemoration of 9/11 at 2 p.m. at White Oak Library (11701 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, Md.).
- Immediately before Arlington's annual Police/Fire/Sheriff Memorial 5K, Virginia Del. Robert H. Brink will dedicate a portion of Washington Boulevard adjacent to the Pentagon as the 9/11 Heroes Memorial Highway at 5:45 p.m. The 5K race begins at 6 p.m. from the Double Tree Hotel (300 Army Navy Drive).
