Laura Burhenn Joins Bright Eyes

From the Indie Rock Diaspora Department: Laura Burhenn, the former Georgie James musician and current Mynabirds leader, is now a member of marquee indie-folkers Bright Eyes.

She recorded vocals on Bright Eyes' forthcoming seventh album, The People's Key, and she'll be playing keys and such with the band throughout its 2011 tour, according to Mynabirds' and Bright Eyes' label, Saddle Creek.

The People's Key is the first album since 2007 for Bright Eyes, whose leader Conor Oberst spent the last few years recording and touring under his given name. The record is out Feb. 15, and the band has announced a few tour dates -- but for now, none in D.C. Your closest option is March 6 at the National in Richmond.

Burnhenn, you might already know, was based in the District for years, performing as a solo artist and with Georgie James, her band with John Davis. She was last here a few weeks ago for a quickie set at one of Brightest Young Things' Family Hemerlein variety nights, where she performed both sides of her recent Christmas 7-inch. It was totally charming.
