It would be easy to miss Cafe Japone if you’re not familiar with Dupont Circle. However, that doesn’t stop the crowd of people in their early to late 20s from pouring into the Asian fusion restaurant on a weekly basis.
This hidden venue is also a hot spot for Karaoke. There is an extensive song list with several thousand options from The Beatles to Lil Wayne.
Beware that if you’re not ordering food, you may have to pay a cover charge to be able to belt your favorites songs.
The sushi tastes surprisingly fresh. There are also plenty of other entrees to choose from.The drinks are also decent, although the prices are about average for the area unless you go for happy hour specials.
Although the crowds can get a bit rowdy after a few rounds of drinks, the small venue boasts a funky, entertaining atmosphere overall.
Separate from the restaurant is a downstairs lounge, which has a more relaxed ambiance featuring a full bar and DJ.
Reservations are highly recommended, particularly on the weekends.
