Follow the zombies and walk to Georgetown.
If you're joining the crowds in Georgetown tonight, be forewarned that parking will not be a treat. Taking the bus won't be that great either.
Yeah, we know it's a hike to Georgetown from the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro Station -- and with track maintenance convienently scheduled on the Orange Line, that option won't be great either -- but once you take a look at the bus options, you may find walking a treat.
(And later, instead of stumbling back home, you can call SoberRide at 1-800-200-TAXI. Or dial #8294 on your AT&T Wireless phone. You have to be 21 or older to use the service, which is only for fares up to $50.)
First, the DC Circulator. It's running every ten minutes between Union Station and Georgetown, but it's not running on M Street in Georgetown or on Wisconsin Ave., south of Q Street.
Of course, there's always Metrobus #'s 31, 32, 36, 38B, D1, D2, D3, D5, D6, and G2, but they too carries some caveats, like:
Then there's the Georgetown Metro Connection bus. It will be available with bus service to and from the Rosslyn Metro Station (Orange and Blue Lines) and the Dupont Circle Metro Station (Red Line) -- albeit with modified service on Halloween night (hmmm, we're sensing a theme here...): M Street to Wisconsin Avenue, down to and along K Street to Washington Circle, up New Hampshire Avenue to DuPont Circle, and returning the same way.
There will be one set of stops at Potomac Street – the near corner in either direction, a set of stops at the Wisconsin Avenue canal bridge, and a set of stops at Thomas Jefferson on K Street.
This modified route will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The fare will remain $.50 with a SmarTrip card transfer from Metrorail at the Rosslyn and DuPont Metro stations. All other stops will be $1.00 in either direction. Senior and ADA fares remain the same at $.25.
M Street and Wisconsin Ave., NW, will remain open, but no-parking restrictions are in effect from 3 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Sunday, November 1 on:
Meanwhile, the following streets are open to residents and business employees only from 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31 until 4 a.m. on Sunday, November 1 -- and don't think you can skirt that rule: police said they will be checking drivers for proof of residency or work ID.
Meanwhile, in another spectacularly well-timed move by Metro (and yes, we are being sarcastic), there's track maintenance on the Red and Orange lines this weekend. Inbound and outbound trains will be sharing one track on each line, respectively, so add 30 minutes to your trip on either line.
Happy Halloween!
