H Street Country Club Rolls Out the Astroturf

Highly anticipated bar/resto/mini-golf spot finally opens

Obviously we'd never want to belong to any club that would have us a member. So it's a good thing that membership isn't involved at all at H Street Country Club, which finally opens today (5 p.m.-2 a.m.; kitchen until 11 p.m.), much to the delight of hipsters throughout the D-M-V area. Margaritas, sangria and Mexican cuisine mingle with 20 tequilas, fancy-pants cocktails ($7-$13) and beers as mundane as Budweiser.

The menu comes by way of James Beard Award-winning chef Ann Cashion (Cashion's Eat Place; Johnny's Half Shell). Choose from Northern-inspired Mexican dishes (think Tex-Mex) at the bar, or traditional Mexican meals from the dinner menu, such as lobster tostada, steak tampiqueño and snapper Veracruz.

And in a major upset to popular gaming speakeasy Rocket Bar, we're betting the Country Club will have an even longer line of impatient grown-ups outside its doors, just waiting to play. Sure, both spots have skeeball, pool and tabletop shuffleboard -- but at H Street, you'll also find a custom-built DC-themed mini-golf course. Ever seen a Ben's Chili Bowl in miniature scale? Don't worry: You will.
