Get Down at the Bluebird Blues Festival

Join us this Saturday for some down-home blues at the 19th Annual Bluebird Blues Festival.

The annual blues lovers extravaganza will be held from 12:30-6 p.m. Sept. 24, 2011, at the Prince George's Community College Largo campus (301 Largo Road, Largo, MD 20774).

NBC4 has been a media partner of the event for many years. News4 anchor Jim Handly will once again emcee the event, with help this year from News4 anchors Jim Vance and Doreen Gentzler and traffic reporter Danella Sealock.

The event is free, and besides featuring some great blues acts like The Holmes Brothers, it will provide live entertainment, children’s activities, music workshops, food and crafts.

From winning multiple Blues Music Awards to sharing stages and recordings with music legends such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, and Al Green, The Holmes Brothers have been feeding the souls of their fans with a blend of blues, gospel, soul, rhythm and blues, rock ‘n’ roll and country. The band easily blends Saturday night’s roadhouse rock with the gospel fervor and harmonies of Sunday morning’s church service.

“Prince George’s Community College is proud to host this important community mainstay,” said Malverse Nicholson, Jr., chair of the Bluebird Blues Festival planning committee and dean of College Life Services. “With the support of our important partners including OneMain Financial, we are able to present legendary performers and some of the country’s leading blues recording artists to the community free of charge."

Other main stage performers include Cathy Ponton King, Whop Frazier, Avery Sunshine. Nap Turner stage performers include Phil Wiggins and Nat Reese, and Grammy-nominated artist Carolyn Malachi and The Jewels.
