Foursquare Day Rabble-Rousers: Swarming a Bar Near You

Foursquare: not just for helping people to burgle your house anymore!

Say, folks, did you know that Foursquare is more than just a way to let would-be burglars know when you're not home! It's true! The online social media tool, which users employ to see where their friends are currently hanging out, has gone uber-viral with Foursquare Day today. The date, 4/16, makes perfect sense to math fans (they've gotta be out there somewhere), as four squared is 16.

Impromptu parties are springing up in dozens of cities, with two events planned right here in the District. First off, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., there's a GPS-based spy mission. The International Spy Museum is giving away two Double Agent tickets and a gift bag. Also Metromix D.C. will give away a goodie-stuffed backpack. The party itself will be based on the rooftop of Public Bar (1214 18th St. N.W.). Drink specials are one thing, but there will also be people wearing Foursquare character outfit. (Please send us a picture if you decide to be one of them). And rumor has it you can earn a special Foursquare swarm badge by showing up and checking in.

People are meeting at 6 p.m. at The Bullpen (1299 Half St. S.E.) across from Nats Park (1500 S. Capitol St. S.E.) and then heading to the ballfield at 6:45 for the game against the Brewers. It's also Jackie Robinson Day, which means you can expect some special events at the game. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. When you check in with Foursquare, you'll get a new Foursquare badge, which means you're cool or something.
