A presidential motorcade whisked the first couple away to the Kennedy Center, where they took in Laurence Fishburne's Tony-nominated portrayal of former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall Friday night.

President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, sat in the president's box for the sold-out performance of "Thurgood."

Marshall was the first black justice on the high court.

"Thurgood," a one-man show, opened on Broadway in 2008.
