Film Festival Turns Attention to Deaf Communities

Gallaudet University will be hosting the WORLDEAF Cinema Festival on

Gallaudet University is hosting the WORLDEAF Cinema Festival (WDCF) through Sunday.

The four day conference and competition brings together deaf and hearing filmmakers and fans to collaborate on cinematic ideas and celebrate deaf cinema to shed light on hard-of-hearing communities.

During the festival, industry professionals will judge entries, and winners will receive cash awards ranging from $500 to $3,000.

Marlee Matlin, Honorary Chair of WDCF, and Terry Riley, Chief Executive of the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust, will receive awards highlighting their achievements. Matlin is getting a Lifetime Achievement Award, and Riley is being awarded WDCF’s International Media Award.
