Eco-Friendly Fair in Mount Pleasant

Celebrating Solar-Powered Rooftops in D.C.

Using the sun to save the environment: that’s what the Mount Pleasant Solar Cooperative is celebrating Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bancroft Elementary School playground (18th and Newton streets N.W.).

This fall, the group has organized to install almost 50 new rooftop installations in the D.C. area. The solar installations are estimated to cut the carbon energy consumption of the homes by 25-40 percent.

The Eco-Living Fair features tours of solar arrays on the roofs of the neighborhood’s row houses and an exhibition by the Bancroft students who tend the White House organic garden sponsored by First Lady Michelle Obama.

Plus, there will be lessons on how to cook with solar power as well as solar cars and other activities for kids.

We know you’re trying to go green, so come out and show your support!
