Don't Try This at Home

Dance Bethesda combines professional performances with your own fancy footwork

Unless you're like, 9 years old, we're guessing you remember Elaine's "full-body dry heave" dance moves on Seinfeld. (And if you ARE 9 years old, please get off the Internet and go play outside or something.)

Anyway, assuming you do, in fact, remember Elaine's dance a la barf, you might be a little fearful of making those same mistakes. (At least until you get a bottle of wine in you, but that's a whole different issue all together.) This Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7, you can get your groove on at the fifth annual Dance Bethesda event. On Friday night from 8-10:30 p.m., there are free lessons for those with two left feet and absolutely no shame:

Dansez! Dansez!
4920 St. Elmo Ave., Bethesda
(Hip-hop, Jazz, Salsa)

Du-Shor Dance
7800 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda
(Cha-Cha, Salsa, Foxtrot, Waltz and Tango)

Joy of Motion Dance Center
7315 Wisconsin Ave., Suite 180E, Bethesda
(Belly dancing, Hip-hop and Modern)

Saturday night's performance -- yes, that means that you will NOT be expected to dance -- features six local dance companies, including Jayantika Dance Company performing the Odissi dance from India, the Maryland Youth Ballet, and Shange Dance Productions, which combines West African dance and with ballet. Tickets are $20 ($10 for kids) and the doors open at 7 p.m.
