With 134 performing arts groups, 18 days to check it out and more than 15 venues to show it all, the Capital Fringe Festival serves up a heaping helping of the bizarre, entertaining and/or thought-provoking.

The fest runs through July 29, showcasing creative performances ranging from improv and standup comedy and drama, to music, dance and live poetry.

Tickets are $17 each plus a one-time purchase of a $5 Fringe button, a way to show your support for the organization.

But if your budget is a little tight, you can also check out the free live local music series during the festival. Every night during the festival, a different local artist and/or musical group will perform under the Baldacchino Gypsy Tent at Fort Fringe (607 New York Ave. NW).

Capital Fringe gives new artists an opportunity to showcase their own original works. The festival also contributes 60 percent of its revenue to the performing arts groups so you know your support is going directly to the artists.

Tickets and multi-show passes are available online here and at the Fort Fringe box office.

With such productions as "Aaaaaagh! Murder!" and "AARP, The Musical," how can you go wrong?
