Ever heard that movies used to be in black and white? And they didn't even have SOUND? No, really. We're not making this up.
Now the National Philharmonic is playing along -- literally -- to a silent film, 1917's "The Poor Little Rich Girl," starring the original Hollywood superstar Mary Pickford. The old-fash fun happens tonight at the Strathmore (5301 Tuckerman Lane, Rockville, MD) at 8 p.m. (You'll need to be in your seat by 7:45 p.m., though, or risk having your spot taken)
Guest Conductor Philip Carli has composed an original score to accompany the flick. The free presentation celebrates the 100th anniversary of Pickford's first screen appearance in May 1909. See, we said it was educational.
