With some Baltimore fire departments facing budget cuts or closures, a City Council committee approved a measure that would allow ads on the sides of firetrucks, the Baltimore Sun reports:

"Firefighters and community leaders backed the bill... expressing hope that the ad revenue could prevent three of the city's 55 fire companies from being shuttered due to budget cuts."

It's not a done deal, though -- first, a study will determine how much revenue could be raised, and the measure will have to go up against the council.

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is against placing ads on firetrucks, an aide told the Baltimore Sun, saying the trucks are not "an appropriate venue" for ads.

However, we took an informal poll of friends and well-wishers regarding what kind of ads could work on the side of a firetruck.

Here's what we came up with:

    • Kingsford Charcoal
    • Johnsonville Brats
    • Weber Grills
    • Firehook Bakery
    • The Fireplace, a Dupont Circle bar
    • Fire Station 1, a Silver Spring restaurant
    • pretty much any kind of chili
    • Preparation H
    • The University of Phoenix (phoenixes rise from the flames, in case you're wondering)
