Lyrics & Lace: Women at the Mic

Remember that old Greek myth about the land of beautiful women? Well, bet you never saw "ISO: A Face That Launched a Thousand Ships" on Missed Connections, but don't worry about that right now.

Lace (2214 Rhode Island Ave. N.E.) is a boutique lounge well-known for their ladies' nights ("Every night is ladies' night," and make of that what you will). The space features an upstairs area with pink lighting and lacy decor.

This mini-sanctuary holds an open mic night every second and fourth Sunday, called Lyrics & Lace, where women (and the occasional brave male) share their talents, ranging from live painting, dance, music and poetry. Drink specials are available, along with impressive entrees prepared by the chef.

Lyrics & Lace "celebrates the woman artist," said SOLSIS, who has been the host of the event. "We have had locals such as Tamika Love Jones, lowercase letters, 330 and art by Elizabeth Stewart."

On Sunday, June 26, Lyrics & Lace will be celebrating their second anniversary. Details are scarce at this point, but swing back to their Facebook page in a couple more days.
