Ledo opened its first restaurant in Adelphi, Md. in 1955, and word of mouth quickly made it a favorite spot for local residents, the University of Maryland community, and the Washington Senators. Their rectangular pizza is rolled to order with fresh, handmade dough and topped with high quality cheese and tomatoes. Not surprisingly, customers often ask why Ledo pizza is rectangular, and the answer is really quite simple. The round pizza pans commonly seen today were very new in the fifties, but rectangular baking pans were readily available. Hence, the square pizza.
