In 1969 Lew Newmyer opened a sub and sandwich shop in Washington, D.C. Six years later, he traveled to Chicago and experienced deep dish pizza for the very first time. In those days, no one in the DC area offered deep dish Chicago style pizza and Lew was quick to spot his opportunity. Along with his sons, he spent months working closely with a variety of people to develop their own dough and sauce recipe, and today, over twenty five years later, Armand's continues to be a Washington area favorite.
