Originally opened in the early '80s at 930 F St. NW, 9:30 moved to its larger location (capacity 1,200) along the U Street Corridor in  early 1996. Known mainly as an alt-rock venue, 9:30 also has hosted a diverse collection of nationally touring artists ranging from hip-hop to bluegrass. The club has hosted special and surprise gigs by the likes of Dylan, Radiohead, the Beastie Boys and the Smashing Pumpkins, and it continues to host local bands, as it did in the early '80s for the vibrant hardcore scene.

  • Patrick One of the best indoor venues in the country! Tuesday, Jun 23 at 11:34 AM
  • J Great venue, but the acoustics isn't great. Wednesday, Jun 17 at 9:21 AM
  • Akiili Glad 9:30 won. Best by a long shot. BC has great shows to though but too small. Tuesday, Apr 7 at 5:51 PM
  • Kaytee Oh, I can't believe 9:30 won. I mean, it's a great club with a rich, rich history especially in terms of harDCore and punk, but honestly...the Black Cat is much more like how the 9:30 used to be. Much smaller, much more personal. Can't believe it didn't win--definitely underestimated. Friday, Apr 3 at 10:36 PM
  • I'm not in this room I can't believe how cool this club is!! Tuesday, Mar 3 at 6:29 PM
