Two big events in the District -- the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the Unifest celebration -- this weekend have created some road closures today, and D.C. police are advising drivers to avoid the following areas:

Closed off until noon, or the until the last Race for the Cure participant runs/walks past a given cross street:

  • Constitution Avenue between 4th and 19th Streets, NW
  •  The North-South streets south of Pennsylvania Avenue and intersecting Constitution Avenue from 6th Street West to 15th Street

The Unifest celebration in southeast Washington runs through 8:00 p.m. Saturday.  Several streets in the area of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Good Hope Road and W Street, SE will be closed for pedestrian traffic.

The 26st annual community festival and parade offers food, live entertainment, games, rides, children's activities and merchandise.

Festival performers include Jessica Reedy, Spur of the Moment, Algebra, Asheru, Rafael Ross & Reconciliation, Suttle Thoughts, English Man, Ten Commandments Band, Bliss Ananda, Introspect Band and Y'anna Crawley, winner of BET's "Sunday Best" gospel contest, The Washington Post reports.
