If you had tickets for the Jan. 9 Femi Kuti show at the 9:30 Club (815 V St. N.W.), it's only been a wait of six months(!) for that show to be rescheduled. We hope you didn't mind waiting much. Either way, if you're at all familiar with Afrobeat originator Fela Kuti, watching the reigning king of Afrobeat continue his father's legacy is a can't-miss. 8 p.m. doors; $27.50.
Unfortunately, Caribbean Carnival in D.C. isn't an all-night affair like many of its counterparts, but if you didn't get enough Soca during the day, the party keeps going at the DC Star Nightclub (2135 Queens Chapel Road N.E.) with the Soca in Motion unofficial DC Caribbean Carnival concert. Fay Ann Lyon and Bunji Garlin, who both performed at the official Carnival event last year, are featured. 10 p.m.; $25 advance or $35 at the door.
If you're getting tired of the bar-and-club scene, stop by the Civilian Art Project (406 7th St. N.W.) for New York Night Train, described by its creator Johnathan Toubin as a literal "party machine." Catch DJ sets by Toubin and Nitekrawler, performances and live projections from other members of the crew, and go-go dancing and hulahooping -- with the entire event somehow being at least partially inspired by Andy Warhol. Your dream evening or some sort of garish nightmare? Either way, how you could pass it up? 11 p.m. doors; $10.
