Brunch and Bossa at Cashion's

Imagine waking up to this every morning.

The 5th annual Duke Ellington Jazz Festival kicks off Friday with a variety of jazz-based performances and events. Of course, that's pretty much what we'd expect from a jazz festival, right? But how about Brazilian jazz? See, betcha didn't see that one coming.

A weekend highlight has locally based Brazilian band Origem playing sets from noon-2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday during brunch at Cashion's Eat Place (1819 Columbia Road NW) as part of the festival's Jazz in the Hoods series.

The Bossa- and Samba-inspired styles of Origem should provide a nice complement to mimosas and cornmeal waffles ordered up at Cashion's. (Not that we have a favorite menu item or anything.)

Reservations are recommended.
