They let the dogs out for a formal affair at Union Station this past Saturday night.   More than 100 canines and nearly 530 owners and animal lovers turned out for the annual Rescue Me Gala for the Washington Animal Rescue League

It was a fun, albeit noisy, event.  Truth be told, the dogs made less noise than the humans.  The night took in more than $180,000 in support of adoption programs and medical assistance that the league provides to its shelter animals and low-income guardians.

Wendy Rieger and I emceed the event.  Gene Weingarten gave the keynote address.  I brought along my trophy date, Gatsby -- a product of WARL.   He was rescued during Hurricane Katrina by the League and is now thriving.

He was in his element Saturday.  He sniffed out the bar scene and danced for treats everywhere he turned.    There were a lot of happy pets with their owners who they've made happy over the years.  A big thank you and congrats to our friends at WARL.
