Steve Handelsman began reporting for News4 in 1984 and is a national correspondent for NBC Television Stations Division.
He covers the White House and Capitol Hill, and travels to cover breaking news stories around the country and overseas for News4 and the other NBC owned-and-operated stations.
Handelsman joined News4 from WXYZ-TV in Detroit, Mich., where he headed that station's award-winning investigative unit for six years. Before that, he was with WLWT-TV in Cincinnati. He won an Emmy Award in 1988 for his story "Kids on Steroids."
Some of the major stories Handelsman has covered include the historic opening of the Berlin Wall, Hurricane Hugo and the summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea. In addition, he has covered Summit conferences in Geneva, Moscow, Iceland and Washington, D.C.
Handelsman is a native of Baltimore and following his graduation from Duke University, he taught English and Mass Media for three years at Anacostia High School in Washington, D.C.
He lives with his wife and two daughters in Bethesda, Md.
