Elizabeth Crenshaw is News4's Consumer Reporter. For two decades she has been covering the nation's consumer beat.
Liz has won four Emmy awards and a coveted National Ohio State Award. The Consumer Federation of America has honored her with its distinguished "Betty Furness Consumer Media Services Award" for her outstanding service to consumers.
Crenshaw joined News4 in 1980 as a desk assistant. Within six months, she moved to the news assignment desk and, a year later, she joined the News4 Consumer Unit as a senior producer. In 1993, Crenshaw became News4's on-air consumer reporter.
Crenshaw's reporting has included stories about work-at-home scams that rip off tens of thousands of consumers every year and how a simple phone call can save you hundreds of dollars on your credit card bill. She has shown how zero-interest loans are big money-makers for retailers and cost the consumer plenty. She has uncovered the secrets of debit cards and homeowners insurance that consumers know nothing about. She has uncovered the secret of "pumped-up poultry" for which consumers pay a pretty penny while getting salted water for their money. She has deciphered the mumbo-jumbo of hospital bills, reported how hot tubs, spas and pools can put children at risk and exposed how the "fine print" takes away the fabulous opportunities that the big print hollers about.
Crenshaw's special segments -- "Tricks of the Trade," "Does It Really Do That?" and "Ask Liz" -- always provide an answer to help viewers get a better deal.
Crenshaw graduated from Georgetown University with a double major in Political Science and English. She received her Masters in Telecommunications from Syracuse University.
The Crenshaws are parents of three daughters.
