Joe Krebs co-anchors News4 Today and News4 Midday. He also files special reports for News4 at 11.

Krebs joined News4 in 1980 from WBAL-TV in Baltimore. His broadcasting career began in Greensboro, N.C., where he covered state politics and produced and anchored Sunday newscasts.

After graduating from the St. Louis University School of Law, Krebs joined the U.S. Navy and served as an assistant Public Affairs Officer aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. John F. Kennedy. In 2007, he attended the decommissioning ceremonies for the Kennedy in Mayport, Florida and blogged about his experiences online.

After leaving the Navy, Krebs worked as an assistant Prosecuting Attorney for St. Louis County. This legal experience proved invaluable while reporting on the trials of John Hinckley, Oliver North, The Walker Family spy ring, drug kingpin Rayful Edmond, O.J. Simpson and John and Lorena Bobbitt.

Krebs' legal experience has also proven useful in his Cold Case reports which air throughout the year on News4 at 11. In these stories, Krebs, brings attention to unsolved murders in the hopes that investigators might get new leads. After one report in 2005, police arrested a suspect who was later convicted for the murder.

Throughout his career, Krebs has received many honors for his reporting, including The Maryland Bar Association Gavel Award, a Chesapeake Associated Press Award, a Metropolitan Area Mass Media Award, three Washington Dateline awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, several Emmys and the RTNDA Regional Award for Feature Reporting. In 2000, Krebs was inducted into the Silver Circle of the Washington Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Since 1997, Krebs has served as President of the Washington-Baltimore Local of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. He is on the National Board of the union and is Chair of the National Broadcast Steering Committee.

Krebs is also an avid swimmer and cyclist. Twice, he has completed the annual 4.4-mile Chesapeake Bay Swim, and he participated in five long-distance bicycle rides to raise money for AIDS service programs in the D.C. area.

A native of Missouri, Krebs lives in Maryland with his wife.
