Jim Handly anchors News4 at 4 and News4 at 5. He also files reports for News4's afternoon and evening newscasts and is a host for News4 This Week, a weekly show highlighting stories from the Washington, D.C., area.
Handly joined News4 in 1992 and served as the first anchor for the weekend editions of News4 Today. Two years later, he was once again tapped to launch a new newscast, News4 at 4:30, which became News4 at 4 shortly thereafter. He added News4 at 5 to his anchoring duties in 2006.
In 2005, Handly was part of the team to redesign News4 at 4. This unique newscast, built around the theme NBC4 Connected, highlights the synergy between News4 and nbc4.com. Through the broadcast and the Web site, viewers participate in and comment on various stories throughout the hour.
During his time in Washington, Handly has been actively involved in many community organizations including the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the American Heart Association, and the Joy of Sports Foundation which introduces at-risk youth to sports. Plus, he has become the perennial host of the Prince George's Community College's annual Blue Bird Blues Festival.
Prior to moving to Washington, Handly served as an anchor and reporter for the CBS affiliate in Hartford, Conn. While there, he traveled to the Middle East for a series of reports about Operation Desert Storm. Handly began his broadcasting career at WPTV, the NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Off the set, Handly is a competitive tennis player and takes part in a number of charity tennis events. He lives in Washington, D.C.
