Cherry's Rant on Ovie Was Wrong

Coach Boudreau defends NHL MVP

Canadian sports broadcaster Don Cherry predicts that "someone's gonna get" Alex Ovechkin and "get him good."

What's the man with the flamboyant jackets all riled up about? He doesn't like the way Ovechkin reacts when he scores a goal.

According to Cherry, Ovechkin reminds him of one of "those goofy soccer guys" and he wants to teach Canadian kids the "Canadian way" to celebrate a hockey goal, On Frozen Blog and NHL Fanhouse reported.

Cherry's beef with Ovie was prompted by some recent back-and-forth trash talk between Ovechkin and Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby, according to the AP.  Cherry came down on the Russian on Saturday during his "Coach's Corner" segment of "Hockey Night in Canada" on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

But Washington Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau, a longtime friend of Cherry's, thinks Cherry is wrong.

"As much as I really like the guy, I thought he was wrong," Boudreau said.
