The Wizards went down last night for the 47th time in 61 games. No surprise. The chase for the #1 NBA draft pick is in full effect.
Problem is, the '09 NBA Draft doesn't have any franchise makers. Still, the hope for Blake Griffin, or even Ricky Rubio, is enough for beleaguered Washington sports fans.
To the chagrin of many Wizards faithful, coach Ed Tapscott is still giving a lion's share of the court time to healthy veterans in an attempt to secure wins. But with so many injuries, that doesn't mean the developing youth aren't getting quality minutes.
Problem is, those "quality" youth minutes are riddled with inconsistency and bad habits ... not the best building blocks for the future.
Still, most Wiz fans remain unsatisfied upon seeing the pasty white Darius Songaila busting his butt all over the court for a losing team. What people don't realize is that the mere presence of Songaila on the floor is leading by example. Kids can learn from the sidelines too you know.
Now, the call for more youth court burn is beginning to be piggy-backed by lobbying for losses. You really can't blame the fans of losing teams such as the Wizards. The idea, even though frivolous, of getting more "chances" at the top pick in the draft seems like the best hedge of bets.
So after losing to a team from Oklahoma in the battle for the right to take a Sooner, the Wizards, at 14-47, sit 1.5 games behind the Sacramento Kings for the worst record in the NBA and 0.5 and 2.0 games ahead of the LA Clippers and OKC Thunder respectively.

Play the veterans? Give more time to the rookies? Fugettaboutit Wizards fans. Tapscott needs to go with whomever is playing best at that moment in time. Besides, the team is doing a good job of losing as it is.
